Music, thearte and media inspire my work. My love of jazz and blues is instrumental in finding a rhythmic way of composing. Working backstage in live thearte helped me with the concept of illusion. Scenes and props built of pipes, ropes, lumber and assorted materials, all contribute to a play of trompe l'oeil. Years spent as a layout artist in advertising alerted me to similar forms of illusions in print as well as in electronic media.
Icons in media speak a language of their own, which when arranged in orderly rhythmic compositions, form into medleys of surrealistic visions. I prefer the form of synthetic cubism, which lifts the imagery off of the picture surface into the viewer's space, forming an illusion of relief or trompe l'oeil. To make art with a certain tension that is thought provoking as well as surprising is my objective. I consider my work to be abstract with representational elements, leaving interpretation for the viewer.
